When I say “Wellness is a journey, not a destination” I say it from the heart! As a young child I suffered of asthma, so bad that I remember not able to breath, being rushed to the hospital, where the nurses were waiting for me with a mask and oxygen tank in hand! It was, and still it is a puzzled the fact that we don’t know what it caused my respiratory system to shut down. After several treatments, a healthy lifestyle and time my body healed and I have not had an attack in 35 years. My early childhood experience taught me to appreciate each and every single breath I take. My passion for dancing never stopped even when the doctors recommended for me to stop all kind of physical activities that can trigger my respiratory system to go under stress. I am not sorry to say that then is when I started to dance more, exercise more, played basketball, gymnastics, run and really embrace physical activity as a part of my everyday life, not as a chore or obligation, but as a need to feel alive!! I was not going to let my body accustomed to “rest mode” I was committed to listen to what my body needed. My teenager years when by with no major health issues. I started College and work full time right away, in a year or so I realized I have developed food allergies or something, because I was not able to tolerate food in general. I have always had a very good appetite and a healthy eating habits, but no matter what I ate, it made me sick. After been admitted to the hospital, they tested me and discover I had stomach ulcers, gastritis and my digestive system for sure was not working properly. The only reason or caused of it was stress! Yes, emotional stress, work, studies, family life. Stress was making me sick, what is there to do, once again clean eating and physical activity played a big part of my recovery, long walks, dance and time to reflect in what was really important in my life, gave me peace and strength to keep going. Life continued, and by my mid twenties after I moved from Ecuador to the USA, choosing not just to leave my country and career, but to start a family, after my first child was born I discover Pilates Technique which it has improve my health in all the areas and give me the mind and body workout that I was looking for my entire life. Having experience Pilates benefits first hand, I decided to become a certified instructor so I can share with others its benefits.
